Stacking Toy
What’s So Special about Special Toys?
Children develop at different and varying pace. The things and people they interact with everyday play a vital role in their learning skills. Development and educational-wise, toys are great vehicles to put those thinking caps on and let go. No amount of money comes with the price of valuable education. What will make it much more special to your child is having you there with him or her through the whole process. Special toys are uniquely done to cater to specific children.
Special children need to have activities or toys that cater to their needs and capabilities. Not all toys are suitable for just any one and they should actually be age appropriate to avoid any mishap or accidents. Here are some ways to help you find the perfect one.
First tip is to get a toy that is soft and not heavy. Infants and toddlers, in general, love to bang objects and throw stuff around. Another suggestion is to select a toy that is perfect for your baby or child’s grip. Get something that will help facilitate mental activity in your child. Begin with colorful and lightweight toys that get the attention of your child when he or she sees it.
Pick toys that produce sounds or are attractive to look at. These types of toys will help in their mind stimulation. There are certain needs of babies that are specially required, keep in mind that newborns or infants are easily overly stimulated. It is advised to introduce new sights and sounds gradually or a little at a time. This includes toys, surroundings, and people per se.
Give your baby a selection of toys with different textures, shapes and material used. If you are unsure or in doubt of what’s best for baby, ask your pediatrician’s advise. There are plenty toy manufacturers that produce toys that are specially made for specific age groups. Special toys like this help children accelerate their physical and mental development.
Children with special needs may need to take more effort in learning the skills they’ll need in the near future. These kids need to be motivated and trained constantly to be able to pick up certain skills faster. That’s why it is very essential to choose toys that are educational because children in general learn better
and faster through play.
Children suffering from autism are suggested to play with basic toys. These toys are usually made of wood or plastic material coming in different colors. It’s preferred to have toys that do not produce any sound because they won’t be able to associate it to what it is supposed to mean. Rather, try puzzles, sorting toys, board games, beads, bubbles, balloons and clay or play dough. Then slowly introduce toy dolls, kitchen sets, toy phones, stuffed animals, car or truck toys, and the like.
For children with hearing difficulty, it’s advisable to use toys that are visually stimulating. Also try toys that implement cause and effect interaction.
For children with impaired motor skills, try a big toy wagon or truck which he or she can push about. Stacking toys are also great for these kids. Toys that have holes and buttons will also stimulate them. Try to incorporate textured toys of different sizes and colors. Children with sensory impairment would love finger paints and sand or bead tables. Children with delayed speech should be able to hear sounds constantly and light-up toys will help them. Special toys will definitely educate and help children learn early in life.
